Discover how Africa's textile industry is a powerhouse of creativity, sustainability, and global competitiveness, opening new opportunities at ASFW.

Africa Sourcing Fashion Week: A New Era of Creativity and Sustainability

Africa Sourcing and Fashion Week (ASFW) has opened its doors with great fanfare in Ethiopia, marking its 11th edition at the newly inaugurated Addis Ababa International Convention Center. The event, which stretches over four resourceful days, is not just a showcase of fabrics, apparel, and accessories but a testament to the continent’s burgeoning textile industry and its role as a globally competitive hub.

Exhibiting Africa’s Textile Prowess

This year, ASFW has attracted more than 210 exhibitors and over 6,000 visitors from 70 different countries. The event shines a light on Africa’s capability in the fashion world, encapsulating modernity, sustainability, and a push towards global competitiveness. “This exhibition is more than just a display,” says Skander Negasi, founder of ASFW, “it’s a promise of sustainable growth and employment opportunities.”

Igniting Economic Growth and Job Creation

Past editions of ASFW have been instrumental in creating over 50,000 new jobs, fostering economic growth particularly for women and youth. In 2025, the stakes are even higher, with aspirations to drive more investments and open new doors for upcoming talent. As Kebour Ghenna, President of the Pan African Chamber of Commerce and Industry, mentions, “Africa, with its 1.4 billion population, is the next great consumer base.”

Emphasizing Authenticity in Leather and Apparel

Representatives like Gabriel Xavier from the Africa Leather and Leather Products Institute bring important insights into how Africa’s vast livestock resources can be harnessed for high-value leather goods. With upcoming forums such as the Africa Leather Value Chain Forum in Zambia, the focus remains on elevating the strategic importance of the leather sector within the continental economy.

Fostering Innovation with a Global Reach

This year’s edition of ASFW also introduces newer focus areas like the integration of artificial intelligence in fashion production and safeguarding intellectual rights for African designers. The incorporation of technology emphasizes innovation, empowering African textile manufacturers and designers to take center stage globally and connect with international buyers efficiently.

The Global Stance

The consistent annual growth of Africa’s textile and apparel market by five percent underscores the increasing global interest in African manufacturing capabilities. As stated in News Ghana, Africa’s emergence as a competitive player is reflected in ASFW, with support from Ethiopia’s Ministry of Industry and international collaborations.

Celebrate an industry that not only dresses the body but also weaves tales of identity and culture. Africa Sourcing and Fashion Week not only represents textiles but an exciting vision for the future of Africa in the global fashion stage.
