The Canadian government has announced a ban on imports of Russian steel and aluminum as part of the sanctions for Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The sanctions apply not only to steel and aluminum, but also to derivative products. Announcing the decision, Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said it would help undermine Russian efforts to support the invasion of Ukraine.

Russia’s trade with Canada fell sharply in the first ten months after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine: exports fell by 78% compared to the same period last year.
