Canada announced the imposition of sanctions against nine Belarusian banks, including the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus.

The imposition of sanctions is explained by the fact that "the actions of the Republic of Belarus constitute a grave breach of international peace and security that has resulted or is likely to result in a serious international crisis."

Apart from the National Bank, the sanctions list includes such banks as Belarusbank, Belagroprombank, BPS-Sberbank, Priorbank, Belgazprombank, VTB Bank, and Statusbank.
