UnionPay has restricted the acquisition in Russia of its cards issued abroad due to concerns over secondary sanctions. It is no longer possible to pay with UnionPay cards of foreign banks in retail outlets using POS terminals of sanctioned banks.
UnionPay has reportedly taken the initiative to limit partnerships with sanctioned banks both in terms of acquiring and issuing.
