DPWH-11 Clears the Air: No Politics Behind Maa Flyover Delay
DPWH-11 refutes claims of political interference in the Maa Flyover project delay, affirming it's due to minor legal and logistical challenges.

In the bustling city of Davao, talk surrounding a critical infrastructure project has taken the spotlight, challenging perceptions and stirring public curiosity. The Maa Flyover, an ambitious venture aimed at easing congestion, became a viral sensation but not for the reasons initially intended.
The Viral Post that Sparked Concerns
Recently, a social media post went viral, purportedly showing a sign at the construction site of the Maa Flyover in Davao City that accused the government of causing project delays due to political interference. This sign, which was nowhere to be found when GMA Regional TV One Mindanao visited the site, pointed fingers at the current administration, alleging withheld budgets and unresolved legal matters as political maneuvers.
DPWH Stands Firm: Setting the Record Straight
DPWH-Davao, also known as DPWH-11, swiftly countered these claims. In a candid response, the department dismissed the allegations as baseless and clarified that the project’s timeline isn’t impeded by politics. They fortified their stance by sharing that the Maa-Magtuod Flyover project has received full financial backing since 2022, with released funds ensuring progress remains unhindered.
The Real Challenges: Uncovering the Truth
Despite the rumors, the actual challenges are far more mundane. DPWH-11 revealed that the setbacks are rooted in legal and logistical issues, notably minor road right-of-way dilemmas. These involve a handful of properties whose acquisition has been delayed due to mortgage linkage. However, progress is evident with 82.5% of civil works reportedly completed.
Collaborative Efforts and Future Prospects
To seamlessly navigate these hurdles, DPWH-11 has joined forces with local entities, including Davao Light and Power Company along with telecommunication firms, to manage necessary relocations of utility poles. This collaborative effort underscores the agency’s dedication to completing the project without political distraction.
A Bright Future for Davao City
The Maa Flyover, with over P1.4 billion pledged, continues to be a top priority for authorities with an expected completion date set for 2026. DPWH-11’s commitment to transparency and progress assures the citizens of Davao City that their future infrastructure is being constructed with their best interests at heart.
As stated in GMA Network, despite swirling controversies, Davao City’s ambition to upgrade its road infrastructure is on track, proving that not all delays have political roots.
