EU Commission Alters Recommendation on Confiscating Russians' Belongings upon Entry to the EU

The European Commission has modified its interpretation of the ban on importing items into the EU by citizens of Russia.

Namely, the European Commission clarified its stance regarding whether Russians can temporarily bring personal items and cars into EU countries.

Previously, the response was a straightforward "no." Now, the "no" has been removed, and it has been replaced with a statement that competent authorities in EU countries should evaluate each situation individually.

Additionally, the clarification now states that "for goods which raise insignificant circumvention concerns, like personal hygiene items or clothing worn by travelers or contained in their luggage and clearly destined for a strict personal use during their trip, national competent authorities should continue to apply the prohibition in a proportionate and reasonable manner."
