The European Union has taken a strong stance against disinformation by imposing sanctions on 7 Russians and 5 companies linked to the dissemination of false information regarding the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The newly implemented measures target individuals and entities responsible for orchestrating a manipulation campaign named RRN, which stands for "Recent Reliable News."

This campaign involved spreading pro-Russian propaganda through fake websites and social media accounts that imitated reputable European media outlets and government portals. The sanctions serve as a clear message that the EU is committed to countering misinformation and holding those responsible for such actions accountable.
