Fortnite's revenue distribution has been revealed due to the trial between Epic Games and Apple. Previously the documents revealed that Epic received more than $ 700 million from iOS customers in two years. Despite such a huge number, iOS turned out to be not the largest platform in terms of the game's revenue source.
In fact, iOS customers bring in far less than other platforms. The documents indicate that 46.8% of the turnover comes from PS4 players. The second place is occupied by Xbox users, which generated 27.5% of the revenue. The iOS platform came in fifth place with 7%. The rest of the revenue was split between PC, Android, and Nintendo Switch. Unfortunately, their exact share was not disclosed, but the combined figure of Nintendo Switch, PC and Android is 18.7%.
Here are the biggest sources of Fortnite's revenue:
- PS4 – 46.8%
- Xbox One – 27.5%
- Nintendo Switch -?
- PC – ?
- iOS – 7%
- Android –?
Epic Games lawyers argue that for 2020, Fortnite developers predicted only 5.8% of total annual revenue on iOS devices, while PlayStation 4 should have accounted for almost 40%, and on Xbox One for 24%.
In August 2020, Epic Games introduced a new payment method in Fortnite to bypass App Store fees, which prompted Apple to remove the app from its platforms. After that, Epic Games filed a lawsuit against Apple.
