Japan announced that it will expel eight Russian diplomats as well as impose new sanctions on Russia. Japan will freeze the assets of Sberbank and Alfa Bank, as well as include about 20 other organizations and about 400 Russian individuals in its sanctions list.

In addition, Tokyo will suspend its investments in the Russian economy and prohibit imports of machinery, timber, vodka, and some other goods from Russia.

The Japanese authorities said that they also plan to gradually reduce imports of coal from Russia and look for its replacement.
