Lithuania Closes Two Border Checkpoints with Belarus Citing Security Threats

Lithuania is set to close two border crossing points with Belarus, namely Šumskas and Tverečius, effective from August 18, according to bns.lt.

This decision comes in response to heightened security threats due to the repositioning of the Private Military Company (PMC) "Wagner." However, crossings at Medininkai, Lavoriškės, Raigardas, and Šalčininkai will remain operational.

It is noted that this move will not substantially alter the situation regarding traffic queues and cargo transportation.
