Netflix Acquired Oxenfree and Afterparty Developer Night School Studio

Popular streaming service Netflix, which previously announced plans to enter the video game market, acquired its first game company, Night School Studio, famous for releasing indie game Oxenfree in 2016.

This is the first deal of this kind for Netflix, and its details were not disclosed. The news was announced in the company's blog.

Night School Studio was founded in 2014 by former employees of Telltale Games and Disney Interactive Studios. The studio is best known for releasing the adventure game Oxenfree and Afterparty. Currently, the developers are finishing their third game – Oxenfree II: Lost Signals, which is scheduled to be released in 2022 on PC, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch.

Night School Studio co-founder Sean Krankel announced in a blog post that they would continue to work on the previously announced sequel to Oxenfree, as well as continue to develop other titles.

Netflix also announced that it would continue to hire top talents from around the world to launch exclusive and inclusive projects. All video games, just like the company's film products, will be available to users by subscription, without ads or in-app purchases.

The company previously supported the release of the retro game Stranger Things 3: The Game, which accompanied the release of the series' third season. In August, the first Netflix games became available to users in Poland.
