According to The Information, Netflix is actively looking for the head of the video game division. According to sources, the streaming service has already approached some industry veterans with such an offer in recent weeks, but it is not known who specifically it is and whether anyone agreed.
Sources of the publication note that Netflix intends to increase investments in games. One of the options discussed by the company is to create a subscription service similar to Apple Arcade, a set of games available by online subscription. The company still continues to discuss the details of the development strategy for this direction, but it has already been decided that there are no plans to add ads in games.
It should be noted that this is not the first attempt by Netflix to enter the gaming industry. A Netflix spokesperson confirmed that the service's subscribers had praised the interactive shows as well as games based on the original Stranger Things series, which the social media giant released together with Bonus Xp Inc. in 2019. The company is ready to expand the set of content available on the platform, based on the wishes and needs of users.
Earlier in April, Netflix announced a slowdown in new user growth. In a letter to shareholders, Netflix explained the slowdown by its significant jump in 2020, as well as the lack of new content due to delayed production because of COVID-19.
