The top diplomat of the European Union, Josep Borrell, together with the European Commission, presented the proposal for the twelfth package of sanctions against Russia to the member states on Wednesday.

The proposal involves imposing sanctions on more than 120 individuals and legal entities for their role in undermining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. This includes representatives from the military, defense, and IT sectors of Russia, as well as "other important economic operators."
Specifically mentioned is the need to punish those involved in the pseudo-elections in the temporarily Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine, responsible for the forced "re-education" of Ukrainian children, and those involved in the spread of Russian disinformation and propaganda.
The European Commission also proposes to introduce new bans on imports and exports, as well as measures aimed at strengthening the price cap on oil and countering evasion of European Union sanctions.
Other details were not provided in the statement of the European institutions. Earlier, Bloomberg reported that the proposals of the EU's 12th sanction package envisage restrictions on trade of goods with a total value of around 5 billion euros, including a ban on the export of machinery and parts with which Russia produces weapons used in the war against Ukraine.
Discussion of the new sanctions moved forward after the foreign ministers of the "Group of Seven" countries gave the green light for imposing restrictions on Russian-origin diamonds during a meeting in Japan.
