After a year of Russia’s unprovoked war in Ukraine and increased pressure on Ankara from the United States and Europe, this month, Turkey has stopped the transit of sanctioned goods to Russia. This is reported by Reuters.

The Turkish government gave companies a list of banned foreign goods and ordered them not to ship them to Russia starting March 1, said Cetin Tecdelioglu, head of the Istanbul Ferrous and Nonferrous Metals Exporters Association.

"Any goods on that list are blocked from Russia no matter which country they come from," he said.

A European Union official said Ankara has provided verbal assurances to the European Commission that as of March 1, goods that are subject to EU, U.S. or U.K. sanctions and export controls will not transit to Russia.
