Unopened Super Mario Bros. Was Sold for $2 Million
An anonymous collector purchased a never-opened Super Mario Bros. game for $2 million at collectibles site Rally. This game broke a record of the most expensive similar product sold. The previous record was set just a month ago, when a copy of an unopened Super Mario 64 was sold for $1.5 million at auction.
Rally bought the copy of an unopened Super Mario Bros. in April last year for $140 thousand.
The former owners noted that the cost of the game was growing rapidly. Last year, someone wanted to buy it for $300 thousand, but investors rejected this offer. And even when an anonymous buyer offered $2 million for it, a lot of investors did not want to part with the game β a quarter of the votes were in favor of rejecting the offer.
The new owner who spent a record amount of money on Super Mario Bros. wished to remain anonymous. The video game is in excellent condition, and its cartridge is sealed, which is rare for the game that was released in 1985. The condition is estimated at 9.8 points out of 10.
