In early June, it became known that Valve was planning to release a portable handheld console similar to the Nintendo Switch.

Now the American gaming giant, which created Portal, Dota 2, and Half-Life, has officially presented the novelty dubbed Steam Deck, which gamers can use to play all games from the Steam library.

The new product was presented on July 15 on the Steam website.

Technical specs:

  • Three models of Steam Deck will go on sale, identical in everything except the memory: 64GB, 256GB, or 512GB. In addition, every model has a microSD card slot.
  • The console has an AMD APU. The central processor operates at 2.4-3.5 GHz; the graphics processor runs at 1.0-1.6 GHz.
  • The device has 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM.
  • The console will have a 7-inch display with a 1280x800 resolution and 60Hz refresh rate.
  • The Steam Deck console has built-in speakers and microphones, as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack.
  • The 40Wh battery lets you use the device for up to eight hours on a single charge.
  • A USB Type-C connector is used to charge the console.
  • The keyboard, headphones, and a wireless mouse can be connected to Steam Deck via Bluetooth.

Valve's handheld Steam Deck will be open to gamers, allowing them to reinstall the OS and other software if needed.

Steam Deck will go on sale in Canada, UK, the USA, and EU countries and at the end of 2021. The console will retail for $399, although local pricing is still unknown. Pre-orders started on July 16.
